Explore Izakaya Skostredet

Izakaya Skostredet, located at Domkirkegaten 6 in Bergen, Norway, offers a unique and delightful dining experience that blends traditional Japanese flavors with a modern twist. This Michelin-recommended restaurant is known for its inviting atmosphere, combining a quiet, classy interior with the option of seating outdoors for a more relaxed vibe. Guests are often greeted warmly, and the attentive staff ensures that diners feel well taken care of throughout their meals.

The menu at Izakaya Skostredet is a treat for those looking to explore a variety of flavors, with options that cater to different tastes. For instance, the chef’s choice menu offers an exceptional selection of dishes, starting with an array of pickles such as cucumber, chili pineapple, pickled pear, and daikon. Sushi lovers will appreciate the freshness and presentation of the tuna, prawn, and salmon nigiri. One standout dish that diners often rave about is the salmon with roe served in a fresh jalapeno and vinegar sauce - a unique combination of flavors that is both bold and refreshing. Other popular dishes include the karaage, grilled sweet potato, pork neck with mango sauce, and the flavorful tonkotsu ramen, which features tender pork and a rich broth. The Fuji set is also highly praised, offering great value with items like salmon belly nigiri, tom yum soup, and Iberico skewers.

While the food quality is exceptional, there are a few aspects that could be improved. The kimchi portions are considered a bit small, and some diners noted that the non-alcoholic drink options were limited, though they were still satisfactory. Additionally, some dishes, like the okonomiyaki, were slightly smaller than expected, but the flavors more than made up for it. A suggestion from guests is to include more variety, such as udon or tonkatsu, and perhaps a matcha tea-based non-alcoholic drink to complement the meal. Despite these minor suggestions, Izakaya Skostredet continues to impress with its flavorful food, excellent service, and inviting atmosphere.

Food was really good. The portion of the kimchi was a little bit small and the service forgot our drinks and it took very long.

We recently visited this Michelin-recommended restaurant and had an exceptional experience. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the wait staff were incredibly observant and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our meal. For drinks, my partner enjoyed the Umeshu, while I opted for the pomegranate juice. Although the non-alcoholic options were not extensive, they were satisfactory. We chose the chef’s choice menu, which provided a wonderful selection of dishes. Sharing the courses was more than enough food for us. The meal began with a variety of pickles, including cucumber, chilli pineapple, pickled pear, and daikon. The sushi round featured tuna, prawn, and salmon nigiri, all fresh and beautifully presented. A standout dish for me was the salmon with roe in a fresh jalapeno and vinegar sauce, which was both flavourful and unique. We also enjoyed edamame, karage, and a delightful combination of pork neck with mango sauce, grilled sweet potato, teriyaki something, and Japanese pancakes. The food was well-presented, with a lot of stronger sweet flavours, so I recommend pairing your meal with a drink that’s not too sweet. The only improvement I would suggest is the inclusion of a dessert in the chef’s choice menu. Overall, the restaurant was well-priced, and we are eager to return to try their ramen. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience!

I visited this restaurant on Saturday evening, October 2025, together with two family members. We were warmly greeted and led to the table without any delay. The waiter asked if it was our first time. When we said yes, he explained in detail which dishes are available and mentioned the portion sizes. After that we ordered multiple dishes. We ordered a fuji set, gyuniku okonomiyaki, kimchi + tonkotsu ramen and yuzu ice cream. We didn't have to wait too long for food to arrive. The dishes tasted very good. Okonomiyaki was probably the least appealing due to its rather small size (not like the huge ones you can find on youtube :D), but the taste was very good, with the cabbage properly cooked inside. The ramen was the star of the evening, with good ingredients and amazing broth. The tonkotsu pork was tender and juicy. The egg was also very good. The only thing that felt somewhat subpar with it were the noodles, some of them stuck and clumped slightly but that didn't compromise the overall experience with this dish. The fuji set was also very good, with a lot of different food for such price. Salmon belly nigiri, tom yum, karaage, iberico skewer - everything was fresh and tasty. It felt like this set had fantastic value for its price. The location of the restaurant was clean and quiet. It had tables both inside and outside. The atmosphere was quiet and classy. The waiters were very helpful, described the dishes they brought, and even asked if we want to double check if the bill has the correct dishes listed. In regards to the potential improvements, it might be interesting to add some sort of an udon dish, these are quite popular. Another one might be a tonkatsu dish. Finally, it would be interesting to try some sort of authentic non-alcoholic drink which pairs good with the food, maybe some sort of matcha tea based drink? Overall, it was a great evening with tasty food and good atmosphere. I will definitely visit again to try other dishes. Strongly recommended to check this place out yourself, I think you'd be surprised with the food and the value!

A Japanese restaurant in Mechelin requires reservations 2 months in advance, not disappointed with a menu upgraded to 5 stars, the food is not only delicious but also beautifully presented, attentive service. unique and novel menu. is a weekend meeting place or for special occasions.

We visited this Izakaya in Bergen yesterday, encouraged by its Michelin Guide recommendation. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was fine, but unfortunately the food did not fully meet our expectations. We both ordered ramen, the flavors were decent and well-balanced, however it was served lukewarm rather than properly hot. This significantly spoiled the overall dining experience, as ramen should be piping hot to truly shine. For a restaurant recommended by the Michelin Guide, we expected more attention to such fundamental details. Overall, it was an okay visit, but not at the level we were hoping for.

Food: 4/5 Service: 2/5 Wow factor: 2/5 Tourist trap: 3/5 Would comeback: No Note: While the food was pretty good, the service unfortunately was very subpar. First we waited to get seated for 10 despite having a reservation and restaurant being almost empty. Same dishes were combined onto the same plate without telling us and so on. Considering pretty high end prices we expected a much more attentive service.

Food and service was absolutely mind blowing amazing. Ramen was my top favourite. Would definitely recommend this place to others. Very well deserving of being in the Michelin Guide.

Izakaya is a nice break from European flavours in Bergen. The vibe is very nice and the service is amazing. The ramen was great, the only critique is that the broth was lacking a bit of umami and flavour, but the egg and noodles were perfect. The gyoza is only served fried which is a shame because if they were steamed they would also be perfect. The dipping sauce for the gyoza was authentic and accompanied them nicely. Overall I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
